No matter how careful you are, sometimes tripping and falling is unavoidable and inevitable. Fortunately, by paying proper attention to your health and keeping your body strong, you can significantly reduce the risk of slipping, tripping and falling.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that the leading cause of traumatic brain injuries are the result of falls. Other injuries that can result from a fall include broken bones and fractures. In fact, serious falls can even leave you with anxiety and a persistent fear of falling again.

Your efforts to maintain your health can go far in preventing serious injury if you fall. Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Vitamin D: Take the appropriate amount of Vitamin D for your body to help strengthen your bones.
  • Footwear: Take your time when choosing shoes to wear, and make sure they fit properly to the shape and size of your foot. You should also pay attention to how you walk to guarantee that your shoes are comfortable. Finally, wear appropriate shoes for the activities you are doing and the environments you will be in.
  • Exercise: Strengthening your lower body is an excellent way to prevent injuries if you fall. With strong legs and good balance, you can be steady on your feet and less prone to injury.
  • Attentiveness: Pay attention to your surroundings and be aware of potential hazards. Do your best to work around dangers to keep yourself safe and reduce your risk of tripping.

Avoid taking medications that tend to make you sleepy or drowsy if you know you will be walking or on your feet for a while. The information in this article is intended for educational purposes only and should not be taken as legal advice.
